Follow these steps:

Kit includes

The Scarf Kit

Includes 12" wide by 54" long piece of mink faux fur and an 8" piece of silk cord.

You will need a box of needles, scissors, ruler and chalk or a marker to mark the fabric.

Measure and Mark

Measure and Mark the backing

Fold the fur in half backing side in, to find the middle. With your ruler or tape measure mark 7 inches from the center and at 12 1/2 inches from the center with the chalk. These marks are for the placement of the silk cord.

Fold fur lengthwise

Fold the fur lengthwise (fur/pile) side together.

Using the natural lines of the backing (repeating parallel lines 3" apart) pin or tack sew the edges together matching the lines every few inches.

Pin edges together

Continue pinning the edge together.

At the first chalk mark place one end of the silk cord protruding out by one inch, as shown in the photo. Pin to hold in place. Repeat for the next chalk mark using the opposite end of the cord.

The silk cord should be on the inside of the folded fur with both ends protruding out.

Sew the edge

Sew the long edge together.

Using a sewing machine try a small zigzag stitch with half of the stitch landing on the fabric and the other half landing just of the edge or as in our photo a straight stitch.

Verify the tension so that the stitch is locking properly. You may need to add additional tension by wrapping the thread around the handle of the sewing machine or some nearby object before introducing the thread to the built in tensioning device on the machine.

Reverse the sewing direction over the protruding cord to make sure it s properly sewn in.

Remove Pins

Remove the pins from the sewn edge.

Move the fold so that the sewn edge in now on top in the center of the flat tube, as shown in the photo.

Pin the end and sew together. The seam should be about 1/2 inch in on the fur pile. Remove the pins

Turn scarf out

Turn the scarf right side out

Fold-in the last end so that 1/4 to 1/2 inch of fur is turned in. Sew across the fur about 1/2 inch in. Caution: Needles break easily at this point.

Free the fur that is caught by the stitch using a large needle, the thread will disappear within the fur pile. Do the same along any seam were the fur is caught in a seam. This will enhance the final product and is worth doing.

Tuft the fur sides together.

With the long seam centered, take a needle and thread and push through from back to front and return the thread to back as near as possible to origin. Tie the ends together to tuft the two sides together. Do this next to each end of the silk cord and once more in the middle of the other end of the scarf. This will keep the seam centered. Use a needle to pluck the fur from the tufting on the good side.

Congratulate yourself.

Your scarf is done and is ready to be worn.
