CARE
How do I fix matted
faux fur on a hood or “hoody”?
(I washed and dried my “hoody” and the faux fur came out looking horrible.)
Very little can be done to restore the fake fur once it has been heat damaged. If the garment was mine and has sentimental value I would locate suitable faux fur and replace the damaged fabric to restore the garment. Other READERS contemplating cleaning their faux fur products should review our documents on the subject by clicking the "Information" button on our navigation bar.
Should you store a fur in a cedar closet?
We are not an authority on real fur and don’t own any real fur but we know that cedar wood is a natural dehydrator and that's real bad for the skin of the fur. Secondly the aroma of the cedar wood and the cedar oil that you must apply seasonally to the wood would adhere to the fur and does affect some people. An entire fur cleaning/storage industry has evolved due to the demand for prolonging the life of real fur and that if you wish to maintain your garment we would suggest looking into one in your area.
How should I store my faux fur
throw?
The season is over, what is the best way? Should it be hung or store folded
in a box?
It's always throw season due to the ornamental quality of a faux fur throw. Air them outside for the day after having inspected them for any stains (see our article on cleaning faux fur in the tips section). Fold the throw in three with the fur side out. And gently fold or roll to fit into a storage box. The throw does get a little creased at the deepest folds within the box, so try to keep it as loose as possible and rotate them during the off-season if possible.
We have a good write up on this subject at http://www.prefurs.com/how-to-clean-faux-fur.htm and please also read our dryer warning http://www.prefurs.com/faux-fur-drying.htm

Can you recommend a skilled furrier or tailor that can make a coat out of Tissavel?
There are some really skilled people out there and we’ll be happy to try and match you up with one. Please use our online form “Ask Leena” or email us for more information.
What are the stripes on your faux
furs?
I noticed that on you present some furs (such as the grey fox, or the grey
wolf) with sharply contrasting stripes running downwards. Are the furs actually
striped in such a way, or is that just the fur being brushed from different
angles?
The faux fur has these additional colors and some are even trimmed to create realistic patterns in the fur.
Does your faux fur fabric have lines on the backing marking out the pelt lines?
Tissavel faux fur has lines on the backing that register with the pattern on the fur to help when matching the pattern during cutting and sewing.
Do you have to join
two panels to make a bed cover?
The fabric is sold in 54" width size, does this mean that that blankets
need two be seamed in two sections to get the a full size blanket? A full size
is usually about 79 X 95 In. not 54x 78.
Yes, that's correct, but a throw is not a blanket. Throws range in width from 50 to 72 inches, typically the width of a single panel of faux fur. We offer blankets or bed covers in the following standard sizes: Queen cover 106" x 88" King cover 106" x 102" Using these standard sizes we can offer our clients a large cover without wasting any faux fur and a single seam down the middle.
We do custom sizes all the time and to make your example blanket of 79 x 95 we would sew two panels of 79” x 95” together, cut and discard two strips of 5 inches off each side to keep the seam in the middle. It is very hard to detect the seam of two faux fur panels that have been completed properly. Seam allowances play a part in overall dimensions, we have left them out of this discussion to maintain clarity.
What is the width of the fabric?
All our Tissavel faux fur fabrics are specified to be 54” wide. Our shaggy fabrics 59/60” wide.
What is the difference between your throws and others seen on the web and in stores?
The difference is in the quality of the faux fur itself, we use only Tissavel faux fur for our Regal and Deluxe Regal Throws. Tissavel faux fur uses extremely high-grade Acrylic and Mod Acrylic for its pile and 100% woven cotton backing. The density of the pile is often 2 to 5 times greater than other imported and domestic faux furs.
A woven backing is a very important consideration that many people overlook, most other faux fur uses knitted polyester backings which tends to stretch and can be very detrimental to the pile. Stretch the backing one too many times and the water-based resin used to bind the pile fiber loops to the backing begins to break down and you get uncontrollable shedding.
Our Regal throw also use a high grade faux suede backing that covers the full width of the fur without requiring a seam. Each throw is fitted, pinned prior to sewing and hand stitched closed.
How do I upholster a headboard?
You can use 3M Super adhesive #77 and a staple gun. Stick the foam to the headboard with the glue and then lay the fur over the foam. Fold the edge of the fur and staple or tack to the headboard along the edges of the foam. Then groom the fur caught under the staples to hide the fasteners.
Can I get one of your shaggy furs but in a shorter length?
We don’t carry any shorter versions of our shaggy. If you only require a little that is shorter try trimming it with scissors or a hair trimmer.
"Faux" is the French word for "fake" or man-made. It's commonly used in the fashion and home decor industry.
Faux fur = fake fur or man-made materials.
What is the exact measurement of a half-yard of Tissavel?
A half-yard would provide you with a piece of Tissavel that measures 18” x 54”.
Do you have to line your faux furs?
You say that your fur has a woven cotton backing.
The substrate (base) fabric that holds the individual fur fibers is the woven cotton. Look at this link to see the fur backing http://www.prefurs.com/Faux-fur-woven-vs-knitted.htm. You would still require lining if you are making a garment or throw.
What color is the faux suede backing on your throws?
The suede is buckskin in color, and goes well with all our faux furs.
What is the backing on your throws?
We use quality faux suede as the lining for our single sided Regal Throws.

Why are you discontinuing some faux furs?
The manufacturer Tissavel discontinues fur lines based on fashion designer needs even though the discontinued faux fur is an excellent product that is still fashionable for the home décor industry. The volume used in the décor industry is insignificant in comparison to the consumption used in the clothing industry.
How long will it take before your stock is replaced when an item is out of stock?
It takes between 12 and 16 weeks for our order to arrive from Tissavel in France. You should check with us by email as the shipment may have already arrived.
